How to set the time on a XEN instance

From How2s

If you try to set or update the date/time and it doesn't change, it may be because you're on a XEN or any other VPS instance. If you're on XEN, you can use the following command to set the clock with the date/ntpdate command (that's on a Debian machine):

echo 1 > /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock

then so you have it after a reboo, in /etc/sysctl.conf add:

xen.independent_wallclock = 1

After that, you can set the time with ntpdate:

ntpdate -b 0.debian.pool.ntp.org; date
